SHERIFF GLODIS ANNOUNCES NEW PLAYGROUND AT ECOTARIUM Worcester – Sheriff Guy Glodis was pleased to announce today the successful completion of a new playground at Worcester’s Ecotarium by the Worcester County Sheriff Office’s Community Service Program. “The Ecotarium is one of Worcester County’s hidden gems, providing thousands of school children educational opportunities that aren’t available elsewhere,” Sheriff Glodis stated. “Any assistance the Sheriff’s Department can provide that will help further their efforts is a welcome opportunity.” Ecotarium, formerly the New England Science Center, explores New England environments and makes connections to global environments. The 55,000-square-foot museum, featuring three floors of interactive exhibits, and 60 acres of open land, woodlands and wetlands provide for unlimited exploration of our natural environment. They also offer indoor and outdoor wildlife habitats, aquaria, a planetarium and observatory and a narrow-gauge railroad. Ecotarium's education specialists design related, experiential programs for school groups, teachers and general visitors throughout the year. Five-person inmate work crews from the Sheriff’s Community Service Program spent more than 35 hours landscaping and constructing the playground site, saving approximately $4,000 in labor costs. Sheriff Glodis continued, “I’m proud that the Sheriff’s Department can play even a small role in helping organizations like Ecotarium provide children with an enriching, hands-on learning experience.” |
