SHERIFF GLODIS RECOGNIZED FOR LEICESTER COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT Leicester – Sheriff Guy Glodis was presented a plaque at the beginning of the Leicester town meeting tonight, in recognition of a Town Hall painting project completed by the Sheriff Department’s Community Service Program. “It’s an honor to be able to give back to a community I’ve developed such a close working relationship with over the years,” Sheriff Glodis stated. “Leicester is a town that will always have a special meaning for me, both personally and professionally.” Beginning in late February, inmate work crews from the Worcester County Jail and House of Correction logged more than 190 hours of labor, painting the entire interior of the gymnasium. Originally bid at a total cost of $85,000, the town will now pay only for paint and materials, costing little more than $5,000. The Sheriff’s Office absorbs the cost of officer staffing and inmate transportation, saving local taxpayers almost $80,000. Sheriff Glodis continued: “The Community Service Program accomplishes a number of important goals, including: skills training and on-the job experience for inmates, cost savings for municipalities, and the completion of projects that otherwise may be delayed or postponed due to fiscal constraints. It is a win-win for everyone.” The largest portion of the work, including painting of the gymnasium’s interior, has been completed while the remainder of the project will conclude later this Fall. At that time, inmates will paint the Town Hall’s foyer and windows. A plaque similar to the one the Sheriff received will be permanently placed at the Town Hall. |
