SHERIFF GLODIS ANNOUNCES HORSE DONATION TO SPENCER NON-PROFIT GROUP OFFICIALLY CLOSES DEPARTMENT STABLES

West Boylston – Describing today as a new chapter at the Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Guy Glodis today announced the closing of the Department’s horse stables and the donation of the remaining horse and equipment to two local groups. Image“These stables are the last vestige of county government, closing one chapter and beginning another,” Sheriff Glodis stated.  “Today we are keeping a promise to maintain only essential services at the Sheriff’s Office, and remove any unnecessary, political functions.”

Worcester County 4-H, based in Spencer, will take ownership of the horse, a 15 year-old draft horse, as well as receive two riding saddles and all of the Sheriffs’ Office’s jump equipment.

Penny Marston, Director of the Worcester County 4-H Center, commented on the donation: “We are truly grateful for the Sheriff’s generosity and support.  Sheriff Glodis’ efforts will mean so much to our program, and to the hundreds of kids who participate every year.”

Forgeworks Farm, in Rutland, will accept the bulk of the stable equipment inventory, including five saddles, saddle racks, bridles, riding boots, leg wraps, and lead lines.

Ted Mahan, Lead Instructor of Forgeworks Farm, stated: “Sheriff Glodis has invested a great deal of time and effort into making this opportunity possible, and for that we cannot thank him enough.  This equipment will allow us to continue our mission of providing therapeutic riding for kids who otherwise would never have the chance.”

Sheriff Glodis concluded: “My goal was simple: to phase out the stable program while also identifying two organizations that provide a substantial public benefit to the citizens of Worcester County.  The two groups here today will be able to use these resources to everyone’s benefit.”
