Sheriff Glodis Hosts Anti-Gang Youth Group Print E-mail
West Boylston – Sheriff Glodis has partnered with the Worcester Police Department to include a day-long visit to the Worcester County House of Correction in the Gang Awareness for the Next Generation (GANG) Program.  Aimed at building leadership and team-building skills, the GANG Program includes classroom lectures, K-9 and S.W.A.T. team demonstrations, and sports activities.
“The key to battling Worcester’s gang problem is to focus on today’s youth; to inspire them to lead more positive pursuits than a gang lifestyle,” Sheriff Glodis stated.  “We are investing in these kids to give them the tools they need to succeed.”

Started by the Worcester Police Department Gang Unit, the GANG program involves 50 students identified as at-risk by their Boys and Girls Club counselors.  Kids ages 11 to 13 take part in the one week summer camp, meeting with local leaders in public safety and the judiciary.  Due to its overwhelming popularity, three summer camps were held this year.
This is the first time the Worcester County Sheriff’s Department has hosted the GANG Program.  During their visit to the jail, participants met with Sheriff Glodis, took a comprehensive tour of the facility, and spoke with deputies from each department about the day-to-day life of inmates.

Sheriff Glodis continued: “We know that kids are approached every day about being in a gang.  My goal is to give them an alternative, and this program does that.”
