SHERIFF GLODIS ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF AUBURN
COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT

Auburn – Vowing to expand the number of work crews in the community, Sheriff Guy Glodis today visited the Auburn District Nurses to personally inspect the completion of a six-week painting project by the Sheriff’s Community Service Program.   During his tour of the facility, the new Sheriff highlighted the important role that community service plays for Worcester County cities and towns. “Over the last year during the campaign, I was often asked what the Sheriff’s Department does out in the community, how we can help people in their day-to-day lives,” Sheriff Glodis stated.  “This program is one of those ways.  Our work crews oftentimes do projects that need to get done, but may cost too much to start right away.  Many other times we provide work that similar non-profit organizations simply can’t afford to do.”

The painting was completed by an inmate work crew consisting of between 4-7 inmates, all within the final six months of their sentence and with convictions of only non-violent offenses.  Projects conducted by the Community Service Program typically include landscaping, carpentry, construction, painting, and miscellaneous manual labor.

Meeting with staff and members of the District Nurses, the Sheriff announced a total project cost savings of $12,490.

A resident of Auburn himself, Sheriff Glodis concluded: “This program is a win-win for everyone involved: the non-profit organization, the community and the inmates themselves, who learn a hands-on skill that can be applied to a productive career once they leave our custody.”
